Alan Bakowski is a Research Specialist at the Center for Advanced Communications Policy (CACP), a position he has held since September 2003. His research areas include federal and state telecommunications policy, Internet & information technology law & policy, government technology infrastructure, municipal wireless networks, and the use of wireless technologies for people with disabilities. During most of his tenure at CACP, Mr. Bakowski was the editor of Telecom/IT Policy Highlights, a monthly newsletter covering legislative and regulatory developments in telecommunications and information technology policy. He has also co-authored research publications for the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Mobile Wireless Technologies for People with Disabilities (Wireless RERC), located at Georgia Tech. In 2005, he advised the City of Atlanta on new investments in municipal telecommunications technology.
Mr. Bakowski began working with CACP as a research assistant while still a student at Georgia Tech. He received his B. S. in 2004 and his M. S. in 2005 from the School of Public Policy, where he was named most outstanding graduating student both years. Mr. Bakowski was also active in the Student Government Association, serving as a student representative for two years and chairing three executive committees (Governmental & External Affairs, Elections, and Internal Development). He was also actively involved with the College Democrats, serving two years as that organization’s president. As of September 2005, Mr. Bakowski is a J. D. candidate at Stanford Law School in California.
