ICT Research Roundtable Speaker Series

ICT Research Roundtable Speaker Series Presents

Prof. Hans Klein School of History, Technology, and Society

"US Control of the Internet: Is It Really Over?"

Monday, October 12, 2009: Noon--1:30pm

Piedmont Room (Student Center Commons 1st Floor; next to Jackets Restaurant)

On October 1 the US government formally internationalized oversight of ICANN. In its "Affirmation of Commitments" document, the Department of Commerce allowed other governments a bigger role in overseeing policy-making for the Internet root. This talk will provide the background of that action, will analyze its significance, and will offer some predictions about the future of global Internet governance.

The ICT Research Roundtable is a focal point at Georgia Tech for policy research on information and communication policy and the technology that facilitates them. The 2009-2010 speaker series features faculty and researchers from across campus presenting their academic work.

The ICT Research Roundtable is a project of the Center for Advanced Communications Policy (www.cacp.gatech.edu) and the Internet and Public Policy Project (www.IP3.gatech.edu)
